Ship Roles

Cargo

Cargo ships are used for hauling raw materials, goods, and other things from port to port or system to system. They can vary in size considerably typically the larger being the more long distance transports. Cargo ships Typically contain small bridges supporting a very small crew with the vast majority of the space being vast storage units.

Combat

Combat ships are one of the more straightforward and also diverse groups of ships. They can range from smaller drone fighters all the way up to massive Citadel mega-structures. These ships are meant for pursuit and/or destruction of other space vessels and are used by everyone from law enforcement and civilian use to pirates and massive military fleets. Most combat ships don't tend to worry about comfortable living and work spaces for the crew but instead peak performance, defense, and offense.

Exploration

Exploration ships are usually frigate sized ships that focus on passenger comfort, reliability, and long travel ranges. They tend to have very nice and roomy living spaces due to the fact that explorers tend to be out of inhabited space for longer stretches of time and thus are given comfortable accommodations to counteract that. In the case of the wanderers all expeditions are accompanied by a Hub Ship that houses hundreds to thousands of explorers giving them a home away from home while they explore.

Human Transport

Human Transport ships usually focus on capacity or comfort of passengers on board. Some luxury transports meant to carry small groups of wealthy civilians tend to have smaller passenger capacity but come with many high end commodities to provide the most comfortable trip possible. Some are meant for purely moving volume of people and they focus on relatively comfortable seating but not much free space per passenger. These ships tend to have small areas for cargo, smaller crews, with most of the ships volume being dedicated to passenger seating.

Luxury & Entertainment

Luxury & Entertainment ships are all about fun and activities. These include cruise ships, sight seeing vessels, Casinos, projection ships, and much more. These ships are entirely focused on providing a fun experience for all those on board.

Maintenance & Repair

Maintenance & Repair ships are typically smaller drones or frigates used primarily to repair hull damages as well as external machines on ships such as turrets. Some smaller frigates and destroyers may have small drones to repair damage and Carriers/Super Carriers/Hub Ships/Citadels/Stations/etc may have up to frigate class ships dedicated to repairing external damages. These are typically not piloted by any more than four people since they are not ever really going far. They bring just the amount of people they need to get the job done.

Mining

Mining ships tend to be frigates or drones accompanied by a carrier or larger ships but all in one carrier mining ships are not unheard of and actually tend to be a favorable alternative for smaller companies due to the fact they don't need to purchase multiple frigates and hire more crew members to run them. These typically are a bit slower than those that utilize frigates or drones but they can bur run easily with a small crew or even one person in some cases.

Stealth (Reconnaissance)

Stealth ships tend to be rather small ships equipped with very powerful sensors and information gathering equipment alongside powerful cloaking technology. These ships tend to have small 1 - 6 person crews and are used for surveillance, infiltration, spying, etc.

Utility & Multipurpose

Utility & Multipurpose are ships that tend to be build without any one specific purpose in mind instead going for raw versatility. These can usually be equipped to be whatever the user desires from transports to combat ships and mining to exploration these ships can do it all. They may not be as efficient at each task they perform as their more specialized counterparts but their versatility tends to be worth it for people doing many various things.
